Talk to me Tuesday: Oh Tradition
Year after year, the Christmas tree lit radiantly in the window of the living room. The once deserted floor beneath the tree was filled with presents. There was a section under the tree for each child in the house. If we behaved (which most children did close to the holiday) , we often allowed to open one present at midnight. Christmas day was spent at my grandmother's house. Familly from all of the New York Metropolitan area visited, laughed, ate, and watched sports.
While those traditions were fun, I need to have meaning behind everything that I do. As a mother, my children ask question upon question relating to every topic under the sun. Mad blogger and I realized this was our chance to change each and every part of our childhood that we thought was pointless such as teaching our children about Santa Clause. Why we don't celebrate Christmas conveys my personal beliefs of the holiday in itself.
Oh tradition, evolve with us. Let us not be sheep of anything/one, but Christ.
This year we bought gifts based on how we were lead. I honestly, feel like giving to those who are less fortunate than us rather than to buy those that I know are living comfortably. I will talk to you guys about that more in depth in a later post.
The best gift a person can give is their presence-not presents...
Think about it.
What are you looking forward to this Christmas season?
Here is a 'gift' I received from my uncle a few years ago. An untitled poem inspired by one of his letters.
