Mommy Mondays: Demitra & Alani

How is your regimen as a mom vs before you had Alani?

Before Alani, I feel like I was much more organized and followed a more strict routine. Since having Alani I'm usually always rushing trying to leave out the house at a set time, which usually doesn't happen. To sum it all up my days are petty hectic now that I have a kid, but I'm working on it. I'm trying to make a list weekly of things that need to get done and making sure that things that can get done in advance do so that routines can run a little smoother. I can write a whole post about this (morning routine, night routine) but I'll leave it at that.

As a woman, can you tell us how you have changed since you became a mother?

Once you become a mother life just isn't only about you anymore. I've become more conscious, conscious of the decisions I make daily, because every decision I make effects my daughter and my family, and I hope for positive effects. I will say I've become more selfless as a woman in whole.

Any self-care tips for other mothers out there?

Honestly, I'm still working on this area. I've always been one to put others before me and having a kid didn't make it any easier. "You worked ALL day, how about you just going home instead of doing your nails to spend time with your baby" are thoughts that always cross my mind. However, I'm learning that if I don't take care of myself how can I take care of another human. I also tell myself that I need to teach Alani that helping others is great, but taking care of yourself is important so that you're able to be there for other people. Lately, I've been going to the gym more, doing my nails more, getting my hair done more often. Honestly, when you look good you feel good, and when you feel good, you automatically just want everyone else around you to feel good. Plus, those times you spend alone makes the soul feel good, and you just have more energy to give to the little one, at least for me.

What can we look forward to on lovedemitra.com in 2018?

You all can look forward to more Mommy and Me Meetups. More Museum visits, more traveling, and more empowering yea that's the plan.

Can you share your most vivid 'mommy daughter' moment?

Alani and I share so many moments and there are so many that are coming to my mind as I read this question. One that really stands out to me was a more recent one. I must have been having one of those frustrating days, you know the days when you're trying to get things done and your kid just doesn't cooperate?! I believe we had just come back from the laundry mat I was tired, Alani was tired and when she's tired she just doesn't grasp the concept of going to lie down she just whines and whines and whines. I could deal with crying like loud crying but the whining something about the whining really just gets to me. This day I was trying to put clothes away, and every other minute Alani had a new request, mommy can I have this mommy can I have that. The first few request I'd stop whatever I was doing and attend to her needs but after the 4th I told her that she had to wait and be patient. Alani isn't very fond of the word patience when she wants something she wants it immediately. She waited then after she got her ice she asked for juice I gave her the juice, and she was content. A few minutes later all I hear is mommyyyyy I spilled the juice, at that point I just had it, I raised my voice and said something like oh my gosh Alani this is why you need to be careful, and her response was "mommy you have to be patient" All I could do was laugh, because she was so right this whole time I was telling her to be patient and I needed to do the same. Kids will surely give you those reminders you need lol.

State the first thing that comes mind when you hear:

Woman- Strong

Alani - Fearless

Family - Love

Travel - Necessary

Self-care- Also necessary

Self -love -Give it in abundance

It was a pleasure featuring you and Alani on the blog today. I look forward to those Mommy and Me meetups!
