From SAHM to Working Mom

For five years, post pregnancy, I stayed home with my two sons: Carmelo and Ajani. Though I loved staying home with my boys while Madblogger worked, I felt as if something was missing. It was quite weird. I am a nurturer at heart, so I made the best of my time at home as a SAHM. As I worked diligently with the boys from singing ABC's to reading and eventually writing, the boys had our home curriculum down before the age of 3. Me...a teacher? Who would have thought.

Being a SAHM prepared me to work with the students that I have today!

In the home daycare system, children start as early as six weeks old. I am still not sure how allowing individuals outside of the family would have affected me. Thanks be to God; that was not an issue, and for the fact that there are great people in my life who could help me should I ever need childcare like the staff at Precious Years on Crosby.

The transition is never as easy as it looks. Especially when one makes a few life- changing decisions for their family. In my case, I started working full time. In less than six months time, I went back to obtain my bachelor's degree. As excited as I was to finish what I had started at school, my boys were not happy with seeing me for only a couple of hours a day. It broke my heart to hear them say " Mom, you never stay at home with us anymore!" Trying not to cry, I reassured them that I would be graduating soon. From Stay at home mom to working mom, you all are a blessing!

My advice to all the SAHMs going Working Mom is to stay strong! The children may not understand why they are seeing less of their parents, but they will appreciate being able to participate in extracurricular activities as well as the spur of the moment weekend trips, and play dates. Carmelo and Ajani are super excited that I am walking in May. They get to see their mom jump over a hurdle in which they could relate.
